Home made sun screen
Living in Dixie, summer sun can be brutal. My first measurements showed one summer day took over 3 kWh for cabin cooling. This is my latest version.

Located outside the windshield, very effective as there is a thin foam layer between two plasticized aluminum outer sheets. Attached at visor hings and windshield wipers held down on bottom. Local hardware store parts, insulative foil, exterior 1/4" cord, hooks, and reflective duct tape. Some assembly required.
One risk, high winds can flap it to shreds so re-enforcement is needed. But cheap to make another one.
